Case study

The Partner: SpaceX (Bastrop / Austin, Texas)

SpaceX needs no introduction: it’s the company redefining the boundaries of space exploration and global telecommunications. For their Texas manufacturing hub, the requirement was clear: maximum reliability, pinpoint precision, and rapid production.

The Challenge: High Volume and Zero Tolerance

The project required the implementation of a customized production line for the advanced processing of PCBs for the production of satellite antennas. The technical specifications and production objectives imposed extremely stringent standards:

  • High-precision pin insertion.
  • Taping to make the stack of the various PCBs a single element
  • Production target: 70,000 pieces per week.
  • Operational continuity to minimize machine downtime.

Our Solution

We designed, configured, and installed a fleet of state-of-the-art automated machinery at the Bastrop/Austin site. Thanks to optimized process engineering, the solution seamlessly integrated the insertion and taping phases into a single, seamless, and coordinated flow.

The Results Obtained

The machines passed stringent acceptance tests, integrating perfectly into the customer’s production ecosystem.

Thanks to this installation, we have consolidated our presence in the US market, demonstrating that our technology is ready for the most ambitious challenges on the planet (and beyond).

Automation and Advanced Plastic Welding

The Challenge: Maximum Strength and Millimetric Tolerances

The project arose from the need to develop customized production lines dedicated to the mechanical processing and subsequent welding of technical plastic components for highly competitive markets.

The technical specifications imposed very strict requirements to ensure high quality standards:

  • Machining and finishing: Finishing of plastic components with minimal dimensional tolerances and complex geometries.
  • High-precision welding: Integration of different technologies (ultrasound, hot blade, infrared – IR) to ensure perfect structural, mechanical and hermetic sealing of the parts.
  • Repeatability and Quality: Absolute process consistency to eliminate critical defects and non-compliant components.

Our Solution

We have designed, configured, and installed state-of-the-art automatic systems for plastic processing and welding at various customers’ facilities.

The developed solution integrates material preparation, robotic positioning and the thermal or mechanical welding process into a single automated cycle.

  • Advanced Process Control: The machines have been equipped with real-time monitoring systems for critical parameters (pressure, temperature, and melting time). This approach ensures complete traceability of the process and full compliance of each individual piece with company and international standards.
  • Technological Flexibility: The modular architecture of the lines allows for the rapid management and switching of different welding systems (ultrasonic, hot blade, IR) based on the characteristics of the polymer and the component being treated.

The Results Obtained

The various systems installed have brilliantly passed the customers’ stringent acceptance and internal validation tests, integrating perfectly into their high-efficiency production lines.

  • Operational Efficiency (OEE): Optimization of cycle times and drastic reduction of processing waste.
  • Product Reliability: Guaranteed flawless structural joints, both aesthetically and with respect to pneumatic/hydraulic sealing.
  • Digital Traceability: Seamless integration of process data with factory management systems (Industry 4.0).

Thanks to these applications, we consolidate our position as a strategic partner in the supply of advanced technologies for the transformation and assembly of plastics.
